38 Special — Batavia Downs 2024 NEW
Clouds threatened the evening, but the weather held off long enough for 38 Special to deliver one of Batavia Downs’ biggest rock shows of the summer. Returning after a sold-out appearance in 2022, the Southern rock veterans drew an enthusiastic crowd ready to revisit the songs that helped define classic-rock radio.
Original member Don Barnes led the band into “Rockin’ Into the Night,” immediately setting a lively pace. “Wild-Eyed Southern Boys” and “Back Where You Belong” followed, showcasing the combination of muscular guitars, melodic hooks and polished harmonies that has kept 38 Special on the road for decades. Barnes’ vocals remained a highlight, while the band sounded tight throughout the performance.
The set continued with favorites including “Teacher, Teacher,” “If I’d Been the One,” “Fantasy Girl” and “Caught Up in You.” The encore delivered a satisfying triple finish with “Chain Lightnin’,” “Hold On Loosely” and Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Travelin’ Band.” For longtime fans, it was an evening of familiar songs and enduring Southern rock energy.
