AC/DC — Madison Square Garden 2016 NEW
Madison Square Garden got a full-throttle dose of hard rock when AC/DC rolled into New York in 2016, with Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose handling vocal duties. Brian Johnson had been forced to step away from touring because of hearing problems, making this version of AC/DC an unusual chapter in the band's long history.
Angus Young remained the undisputed showman, delivering his trademark schoolboy antics and blistering guitar solos while the band powered through a career-spanning set. “Rock or Bust” opened the night before classics like “Shoot to Thrill,” “Back in Black,” “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap” and “Thunderstruck” kept the arena roaring. “Hells Bells” brought its dramatic entrance, while “Whole Lotta Rosie” and “Let There Be Rock” showcased the band's heavier side, including an extended Young guitar solo.
The encore was pure AC/DC spectacle: “Highway to Hell,” “Riff Raff” and “For Those About to Rock (We Salute You).” With cannons firing during the finale, the band turned MSG into a thunderous celebration of rock and roll.
